I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Delaware’s Center for Applied Coastal Research, working on an NSF-funded project investigating swash zone hydrodynamics. In 2024, I led the data collection for wave basin experiments at Queen’s University in Canada to study hydrodynamics and bed shear stress in the swash zone. My research focuses on nearshore processes, coastal resilience, and flood emergency management. Before transitioning into academia, I spent over a decade as a civil engineer and manager in public water administration in Germany. Following the 2021 Ahr Valley flood, I served as a project manager in the crisis team for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and subsequently worked in disaster management at the regional authority for civil protection.
I am currently a co-PI on a MARACOOS-funded coastal resilience project and participated in post-hurricane field data collection in Florida with NEER, GEER, and the NHERI RAPID facility after Hurricanes Helene and Milton (October/November 2024). I also serve as an inaugural at-large member of ASCE’s Coastal Engineering Research Council and co-authored the Springer Nature book Operativer Hochwasserschutz (2025), focused on flood emergency management. I earned my doctoral degree in 2022 from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, with a dissertation on improving flood emergency management systems.
Since 2015, I have gained extensive teaching experience, bringing my practical background into the classroom to educate students in civil engineering, environmental sciences, geography, biogeosciences, biology, and water and infrastructure management. I have taught at multiple universities in Germany and at the University of Delaware, U.S., combining theoretical knowledge with applied insights to prepare the next generation of engineers and environmental scientists for interdisciplinary challenges in hazard management and resilience.
Below you will find my current curriculum vitae, which provides an overview of my academic background, research activities, teaching experience, publications, and professional service.
